Alice Stewardson’s work examines consumerism and false imagery. In particular, how our food culture is changing – being plumped up; airbrushed; tweaked and prodded – until the images we see of food are unrecognisable. Alice’s work plays with the hyper-real, portraying visions of deliciousness perfected. A drip of chocolate suspended as it tumbles down the side of a mug; sprinkles held forever at the perfect angle; and cream which will never wilt and spoil. She uses her gloriously gooey glazes to create pieces which entice both the eyes and the tastebuds.
Alice studied 3D Design and Craft at the University of Brighton, and she currently works from her studio at Phoenix Galleries, Brighton.
